Description:
Serial #G1627084, .22-250 Rem., 24" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a Model 70 XTR Varminter that features a full original parkerized finish on the barrel and receiver and a matte blue bolt with engine turned body and lugs. A small and unobtrusive import stamp is present on the underside of the barrel and QD studs and swivels are installed. The receiver ring is stamped on the left side: "RCMP GRC". There is no provision for iron sights on the rifle. The checkered walnut stock has almost no wear or handling marks except for a single small blemish along the underside of the cheek-piece. The rifle was part of a 13 piece order placed at the request of the RCMP on February 1, 1984, by Lloyd Libke Police Sales of Coburg, Ontario (seven .22-250 rifles and six .308 rifles). The original purchase order (which lists this rifle by serial number) and box end label are included with the rifle. Also included is an April 2, 1984 dated letter on Lloyd Libke letterhead stating that the rifles were rejected due to the barrels not meeting the requirements of the RCMP (a heavy varmint barrel was ordered but the police probably wanted a target weight heavy barrel instead). This is a really unusual piece of RCMP equipment that was ordered and marked for the Mounties but subsequently rejected and is in virtually new condition with very few handling marks. FFL
