Description:

This beautiful Scottish hammerless sidelock number A5079 was built prior to 1896 as a best quality gun. Charles Ingram was a small Scottish provincial gunmaker, based in Glasgow and generally known for low to middle quality guns. However, this gun exudes quality and finish and must have been completed as a special order for some wealthy, local customer. Built with bar locks, it exhibits many features commonly found on guns from more illustrious gunmakers, later Holland style interceptor sears not least among them. The original 30" damascus barrels have been re-proofed for 2 3/4" nitro cartridges and together with replacement stock and forend make this a fine gun for game or targets.   ***   The action features a top lever, double triggers, top extension, and automatic safety. It has 9-pin bar action locks, gold lined cocking indicators, H&H style interceptor sears, and Baker ejectors. Nicely engraved with Best Scroll it is beautiful to behold. Overall weight is 7lb even.   ***   The original Damascus barrels are 30” in length and were recently nitro proofed in Birmingham for 2-3/4” cartridges. The top rib is in a smooth concave game style. The right barrel has a bore diameter of 0.738 with a 0.007 constriction for Improved Cylinder choke. The left barrel is bored 0.736 with a constriction of 0.016 for a Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness for both barrels is mainly 0.022 with a patch of 0.019 at 9-10” from the muzzles.   ***   The replacement straight hand stock and splinter forend are made from figured walnut. The stock is cast off for the right handed shooter and has a nice 1” leather pad. The bolstered forend has a finely engraved steel forend tip. Length of pull is 14-5/8” over a 1” leather pad. Drop at Comb is 1-11/16” by 2-5/8” Drop at Heel.   ***   This all adds up to a beautiful and strong gun that is a joy to shoot and should give many years of service on game or clays with normal maintenance.
