INDIAN WARS SPENCER U.S. MODEL 1865 CAVALRY CARBINE. Serial numbered in the 2,xxx range and all original and matching. .50 Spencer rimfire caliber 18” barrel stamped at the breech “M 1865”. Top of frame stamped “Spencer Repeating/ Rifle Company/Boston Mass.”. Excellent overall with 70-80% barrel blue and dark case hardening mixed with crisp original brown patina on the frame. Excellent wood with 95% plus of the original arsenal finish and with two extra nice U.S. Government Inspector’s cartouches on the left wrist. Perfect working order and excellent bright bore. Type of Spencer used by the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of the Washita among many others in the early post Civil War era prior to the adoption of the Springfield Model 1873 Carbine. Was a favorite of Ranald Mackenzie and his 4th Cavalry during the Comanche Kiowa Wars.
