NEW ENGLAND GEORGE III FLINTLOCK MUSKET FOWLER SIGNED BLAIR CA. 1770-80. 60” overall with .70 caliber smoothbore 44 ½” octagon to round barrel stamped at the breech with British proof marks and a barrel maker’s proof. Lock signed in script “BLAIR”. Massachusetts or Rhode Island walnut stock with classic curved butt. Brass “URN” finial trigger guard and ramrod pipes. Brass butt plate with light engraving including a nice “UNION JACK” shield. Original wood ramrod. Fine overall with the lock having all the original parts and crisp markings. Metal with dark original patina and stock with a blackened attic finish. Lock in perfect working order. Many of these saw service in the Revolution with New England “Minute Man” companies particularly in the early part of the war.
