Description:
Serial #10984L, 8mm Mauser, 24” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a late-war “byf/44” coded rifle that has matching numbers on the bolt, shroud, and cocking-piece. The metal has 80-85% of the original blue remaining which has blended smoothly with a dark pewter gray patina on the balance of the metal and has some mottled dark frecklong along the exposed portion of the barrel at the muzzle and on the “byf” coded, stamped trigger guard/floorplate assembly. There is some fading and silvering on the exposed and bearing surfaces of the bolt and receiver as well as on the other projections and edges. The laminated stock is numbered to a different rifle (1257) and has been lightly cleaned leaving only minor handling marks and surface bruises in the otherwise excellent added varnish finish. The rifle is equipped with a late-war, cup type buttplate with bolt disassembly hole and is numbered to the stock. The buttplate has been cleaned and now has a dark gray-brown patina. The rifle does not have either a cleaning rod or a sling, but does come with a period-made flip-open muzzle cover. This is a fine World War II Karabiner overall that does not have any import stamps and would make a great addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
