Description:
#4870 Colt Model 1855 “Root” revolver, Series 5A, 4-1/2”x31cal (fairly scarce variation!), fine smooth grey metal with VG markings. But what is VERY unusual is the fact that this little Colt Root is actually functioning smoothly and well! Only equalled in their fragility by the Model 1877 D/A “Lightnings”, the 1855 Root model almost caused Colt to go bankrupt in the late 1850s due to being unreliable when reliability was needed! Fortunately both the 1849 and 1851 models were extremely reliable and successful as well, so Colt survived. Fitted also with a lanyard ring, the main deficits to this otherwise well above average (and quite scarce) Colt are the one-piece grip, which has several cracks and repairs to slivers, and a spot at the front left side of the barrel where there is a shallow cut, as if someone was going to whack off a piece of the barrel. About VG as described. $1075
