Description:
#4786 Marlin 1881 RBFMCB “Carbine”, 45/70 with VG+/Fine bore with deep rifling and just some light minor lead build-up. Serial numbered in the 5XXX range so likely made in 1882-83. Now, there were NO Marlin 1881 carbines made, so this is obviously a made-up gun using either a turned down octagon barrel or a replacement round barrel of 22”. Consequently, it does NOT have any makers marks or patent dates but it is DEFINITELY a Model 1881 and by the serial number is definitely pre-1884. Smooth crisp metal with a soft blue patina, VG wood …except that it should have a sling swivel replaced on the stock belly and a swivel replaced on the front barrel band. Standard open sights. After a safety check by a competent gunsmith, this should be a very handy and great shoulder pounder! VG++ as described. $1395
