Description:
Serial #9007, .56-52 Spencer Caliber, 22 1/4" barrel with a very good bore that has moderate freckling within the grooves and at the breech. The barrel retains 80% plus of an old added blue finish that has small pinprick pits and plum-brown freckling in small patches through the bluing along the entire length and the front sight has been milled flat. The frame has a dark gray overall patina with light patches of pinprick pitting and dark brown freckling as well as some applied heat coloring, brightest along the underside and on the lockplate. The walnut stock has a dark original varnish finish with numerous small handling marks and blemishes throughout. There is an "H" carved into the left side of the butt, some gaps and small chips at the wood/frame juncture (mainly on the left), and a crack through the top of the right side of the wrist from the lock to the tang. The barrel lock-up is still tight and the mechanism is fully functional. This is a very good looking Gallager and would make a nice representative example for a collection. This may be one of the last 5000 Gallagers built in 56-52 RF or t may have been converted at a later date. The extractor looks to be correct. The firing pin nipple was altered at somepoint but works well. Antique
