Description:
NSN, .54 Caliber, 24 1/4" barrel with a very good, bright bore that has minor freckling and pitting at the breech. This is the later model, Remington-marked carbine with Maynard tape primer and has an overall smooth brown patina with scattered areas of smooth freckling along the barrel and some minor flaking along the exposed portion of the breech lever. Traces of original blue can be seen on the side hammer as well. The brass fixtures have developed a dark ochre patina spots of dark brown tarnish on the trigger guard and tang. The walnut stock has an excellent military oil finish with scattered small handling marks and small blemishes including a small area of surface chips and with-the-grain cracks at the tip of the wrist tang as well as a few minor surface chips around the buttplate. The mechanism is still tight and fully functional. This is a fine example of a rather scarce American naval carbine since only about 1,000 were ever built. Antique
