Description:
This is an original complete Springfield Model 1880 Trapdoor .45-70 rifle, better known as the experimental rod/bayonet model. Springfield made 1,000 of these in 1880 and most were issued out west for trials where they saw heavy use. This prime example evidently escaped the heavy use part and remains in very good to excellent original condition with original sling and minty bore. Serial number of ths rifle is right in the middle of the known serial range for these rifles. I seriously doubt there is another this nice in existence.
