Description:
This is an interesting pistol that started out as an Army P.08 in WW I. It was later acquired into the military stores of the Weimar Republic in 1920 and received a second date stamp. It somehow wound up in police service and the front of the grip frame is stamped ‘S.D.IV.’ and then a rack number 477. The stamp is short for ‘Schutzpolizei Duisburg-Hamborn’. Sometime after that, its original breech assembly was swapped out with one from a byf Mauser and re-blued ca. 1941+. It then presumably served as an Army weapon, perhaps from the time when police companies were called up from the cities for front line duty. This pistol is certainly former police issue and is of special interest to the advanced collector! Most numbers match and the toggle hinge pin is a field expedient.
