Description:
#4880 Colt 1860 Army revolver, 109XXX (1863) matching throughout including the wedge, 44cal percussion with a fine bright bore that has one shallow small rust blemish about mid-bore that is probably due to the practice of stuffing a patch in the bore to prevent dust and moisture. But then when left in the bore untouched for a hundred years, the patch often “sticks” to the rifling causing a slight rust blemish. Excellent tight action, excellent cylinder scene (about 90-95% intact), and even retaining all the safety pins on the cylinder! Smooth metal with no finish remaining, but if you have a good imagination, you can almost see traces of casehardening on the hammer and frame. Grips are VG but yet worn too much to have any hint of the acceptance cartouche and the grips, therefore are the weak point of this otherwise VERY nice Civil War revolver. This gun was almost certain to have been issued to an officer or someone who had a non-combatant duty, as it shows very little actual battle use, but does show wear from being carried. WELL above average. VG++ $2250
