Description:
NSN, .53 Caliber (approx. 32 Bore), 36" barrels with lightly freckled and pitted bores. This is a "HOOPER SQUARE, LONDON" marked gun that has been professionally reconverted to flint and has an overall darkly mottled gray patina with scattered areas of freckling throughout. The breech exhibits moderate pitting with light floral scroll engraving around the touch holes which have smooth circular surrounds without any pitting. The "E&W BOND" marked locks are nicely engraved with typical British floral scrollwork and are equipped with water-proof pans and graceful swan-necked cocks with an overall smooth pewter patina that has almost no pits or corrosion inside the pans (Edward Bond's company operated as E&W Bond from 1826 - 1854). Both locks are tight and fully functional. The walnut stock has an old added varnish over numerous small handling marks and bruises and is fastened by a single wedge with trilobate escutcheons. There is an ornately engraved, lightly freckled triggerguard with pine cone finial and floral scroll along the exterior of the bow. The checkering, while no longer sharp, is still strong and the buttstock has some scattered small handling marks and blemishes while the lightly freckled minimally decorated buttplate stands a bit proud of the wood. The gun comes with a brass-tipped wooden ramrod held by two plain thimbles and an ornately engraved tail-pipe with small pine cone finial. This is a nicely refurbished gun in fine condition that was made by a well known and respected London firm. Antique
