SCOTTISH HIGHLAND INFANTRY OFFICER’S PATTERN 1828 BASKET HILTED BROADSWORD CIRCA 1828-34. Large sword measuring 39” o/a with 33” unmarked blade 1 5/8th” wide at the guard. Original sharkskin grip wrap and braided triple copper retaining wire as well as the original pommel tasselling. Scarce original leather scabbard with steel mounts in primary use until 1834 when it was supplemented with a steel scabbard which eventually became the standard. Very good to fine overall with nice original patina. Grip wrap excellent and blade very good with some minor spots of darkening and what appears to be a slight bullet graze mark at center blade on one side only. This also might be from shrapnel.
