Description:
SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1795 TYPE 1 FLINTLOCK MUSKET DATED 1802. .69 caliber 42 ½’ barrel with “P/ORDNANCE EAGLEHEAD/ V” Springfield Armory early style proofs at the left breech. Lock plate stamped “SPRINGFIELD” in a horizontal arc behind the hammer and “EAGLE/ US” forward of the hammer. These are also the early type markings correct for the Type 1 model 1795. Butt plate tang dated “1802”. First type of musket produced at a Federal Armory and quite scarce even in restored. Lock nicely reconverted to flint configuration using aged reproduction parts. Lock markings refreshed. Wood restored forward of the center band. Bands, band springs and swivels original. Ramrod a restored replacement. Stock with the original patinated finish and a script “A” and “STAR” inspector’s stamps on the left wrist. Lock in working order. Reasonably priced.
