GEORGE III BRASS BARREL FLINTLOCK OFFICER’S PISTOL WITH MASQUE BUTT BY I. JOSEPH OF LIVERPOOL CIRCA LATE 1700’S. 15” o/a with 9” round brass .60 caliber smoothbore barrel with American style sights. Fine brass mounts with ornate grotesque masque brass butt cap with the so called “Charles Laughton” visage. Barrel with Birmingham Proof House View proofs and signed ‘LIVERPOOL”. Brass acorn finial trigger guard. Lock signed below the pan “I. JOSEPH. Walnut full length stock with wood ramrod. Very fine overall with mellow brass and good markings. Stock with very well done wood restoration on the forward part of the forend which you barely detect. Lock in working order. I. Joseph was a Liverpool, Lancashire maker and is listed in Merwyn Cary’s book ENGLISH, IRISH AND SCOTTISH GUNMAKERS” p. 54. Very handsome with a particularly nice masque butt cap.
