EXCEPTIONAL GERMAN 9X57R CALIBER DOUBLE HAMMER RIFLE BY CARL STIEGELE OF MUNICH CIRCA 1895. 25 ½” fluid steel, blued barrels chambered for the 9x57R Mauser cartridge. Rib engraved “C. STIEGELE MUNCHEN”. Double set triggers. Double leaf rear and windage adjustable front sights as well as a retractable tang sight. Sling swivels. Ornate English style scroll engraving on the case hardened locks, frame and mounts. Walnut checkered stock and forend. Horn trigger guard and forend cap which is also carved in a leaf pattern. Fancy engraved and checkered steel butt plate with trap for three cartridges. Superb condition with 98% original blue and much grey case hardening. Wood with all the original finish. Mint bores and in perfect working order. Has seen only modest use. Carl Stiegele was Gunmaker to the Bavarian Royal family and probably the greatest German maker of the early cartridge era. He was noted for his sporting and target rifles all of which exhibited the highest craftsmanship and equal to the best English guns of that time. Exceptionally nice.
