Description:

BURNSIDE CARBINE

14-172 Made by the Burnside Rifle Co. Manufactured c. 1857-1865. 54 Caliber; percussion breechloader. The Burnside arms are of special collector interest due to the identity of their designer, Ambrose E. Burnside, Treasurer of Bristol Firearms Co. (Financial difficulties caused him to sell his interest June, 1859) and famous Union general during the Civil War. The cartridge is also unusual, having either a copper casing, or of tampered foil.

Standard Model: Top of Frame marked with serial #28810: Burnsides’ patent model 1864, newly made replicas of the cartridge are available for shooters.

Condition: Overall very good condition gun with most of finish on Bbl, but dark and with some very light corrosion on bbl and frame, has not been cleaned or buffed, lock is clean, bore is very good with 50% rifling and some corrosion needs to be cleaned, works fine, wood has usual dents, dings, etc. With remnants of a cartouche nice for a collector or shooter. Have your gunsmith check it out. (14-172)
