Description: NSN, .59 Caliber (approx. 20 Bore), 37 1/4" barrels with lightly freckled and pitted bores. This is a graceful gun, still in the original flint, that has an overall darkly mottled gray patina with a crisp maker's mark on the rib written in flowing script: "La Roche a Paris". Additional small geometric decorations are also present on the rib behind the name as well as encircling the breeches. A small integral stud is present on the left tube near the muzzle and there is a small metal patch repair on the underside of the right tube about 7 1/4" from the muzzle. The plain locks are unmarked and have a mottled gray patina with moderate pitting on the pans and around the touch holes. Both locks are still tight and fully functional. The French walnut stock has an old added varnish finish over numerous small handling marks and blemishes and has a partially legible painted inventory or collection number on the left side of the forend. There is an ornately shaped, lightly freckled triggerguard with urn finial and flared bilobate bow. The wood is uncheckered and has a large oval escutcheon at the wrist with some with-the-grain drying cracks at the butt, most noticeably on the left side. The gun comes with matching condition metal ramrod held by two plain thimbles and a slightly ornate tail-pipe with small fleur-de-lis finial. The original sling swivels are still attached. This is a well-made gun in fine condition and in the original flint that would make a wonderful addition to a collection.
