#4943 Winchester Model 1890 Slide-Action 22RF Short, scarce and VERY desirable 1st Model with the non-takedown solid frame, 69XX serial range (probably first or second year production). An untouched and unmolested example of this iconic little pump gun that quickly became one of Winchesters most successful repeaters and a favorite with shooting galleries. Liberal traces of blue on the barrel but also with some dings and bruises on the barrel, too. Tight action. The wood is much above average as well, but has two small chips at the upper tangs. Better-than-average bore that does have some lead build-up, but compared to what is USUALLY seen in these very early slide action kids guns, it is at least a “6” on a scale of 10 bore. The highly corrosive early fulminate black powder cartridges sure did a number on the bores of most of these rifles and they really should be considered only for their collector value and not as shooters. The Model 1890 Winchester is probably the most highly collected and most valuable of any of the late 19th Century 22-caliber rifles ever made, and this is a very decent and very early representation.
