Description:
#4871 Colt Model 1862 Police, 5-1/2”x36cal, 42XXX range (1870) matching except the wedge which is unnumbered. Decent black-powder bore, about a 7 on a scale of 10, mechanics are currently locking up because either the cylinder hand is too long or the cylinder stop needs lowering. It will revolve if “helped” over the stop, and all the parts look to be there and unbroken. However …the mechanics are the easy part, the harder part is the little backstrap “ear” that is broken completely off and needs to be braized or silver soldered so the grips will be good and tight. The original grip look to be the victim of use as a hammer and has chpping on both toe edges. The metal is an even grey with scattered pitting but the markings are good and readable. It is also marked “MOKSOW” on both the frame and backstrap; the reason for this marking is unknown. The ’62-Police was one of the lesser produced Colt percussions, and yet one of the more handsome designs. This will be a very good representation of this model with very little work needed to repair its problems. A bargain! $495
