This specimen is one assembled by Francis Bannerman Arms Co in 1890 from the left over and incompleted items when Spencer Firearms bellied-up in the late 1880s and Bannerman purchased the Spencer assets. The Spencer shotgun has the historical significance of thus being the first commercially successful slide action shotgun, and this improvement pretty much ended the double-barreled shotgun market dominance. It took Winchester another decade to develop the troublesome Model 1893 and finally the VERY reliable Model 1897. This particular scattergun is a NICE representation with about 80% coverage of a 70% density Damascus pattern on the barrel and good traces of case colors evident on the frame. The bore is about a “7” on a scale of 10; just light scattered pitting from black-powder use, and the action is tight, solid, and working well. VG wood with the “Billy-Club” style forestock. Historical and very interesting shotgun in VG++ condition. $1295 SOLD Antique: Yes |
