Description:
This is a Moore-Enfield Rifle Musket in .58 Caliber. J.P. Moore's sons were one of Colt's jobbers and it appears likely that Colt was the source of some of the parts for these scarce rifles. The barrels had been purchased in Europe, but Colt decided to manufacture their own and sold these to the Moore’s. A number of the parts were also imported. There was a theory at one time that these were Confederate (this one is marked C.S.A. on the wood) but there is proof positive in correspondence from Moore dated Jan. 13, 1862, that the muskets were theirs. This rifle musket is in excellent condition. It has an N&SS on the ram rod and the serial number 6413 on the barrel near the front sights. The lock has an EAGLE over a SHIELD with an A.M. inside. It is dated 1863 forward of the hammer. It has the standard Enfield sights and the 25-25 proof on the barrel. All the bands are iron. The nose cap, trigger guard and butt plate are brass. The overall appearance is really extremely fine. It would be very hard to find a better one. Buyer pays $30.00 shipping.  Three day inspection allowed if returned UNALTERED.   Must be 21 years of age to purchase.  Antique – no FFL required.  If your state requires an FFL for antiques, you should call 251-510-5007 before buying.  Any weapon you plan to shoot should be inspected by a competent gun smith before firing. US only - no International sales. Give us a call or e-mail us at jimconfederateordinance.
