Description:
SOLD.. Antique 1892 Winchester in the excellent shooting caliber 38-40. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. Antique 92's are getting harder to find.!!! Early S/N 43635 and MFG in very early 1894. The bore on this one is very nice. Still has some shine. Very strong and deep rifling remaining with just some light roughness from honest use with black powder as most all you will find. NO craters, rings or bulges. Just a very nice and very shootable bore here. It shoots great and very accurate. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. Safety notch on hammer is correct and solid as is the full cock notch. Goes to full cock notch even with a slow and easy lever operation. I am finding many of these 92's that need this issue repaired but this one functions wonderfully.. No bulged cases or back out primers. The metal over all shows areas of untouched surface crud and is mainly on the lever and the mag tube. Some also on the last half of the barrel on the bottom and side flats and the forearm cap. The receiver is fairly clean with just small specks here and there and the area around the S/N as you can see in the photo. Probably has had some poor storage over the years. Would also probably benefit from a careful light cleaning if so desired. I will not mess with it. The gun is NOT all pitted and shows no abuse but just a honestly used 92.. Still retains the early heart shape or tear drop hammer knurling. Looks like all of the receiver screws are new correct replacements. NO damage to the screw holes or any scratches on the receiver..The upper tang screw is also a newer correct replacement. Do not know why these were replaced as this is the way I bought it. Maybe just burred up bad and the owner wanted better screws ??? You make the guess !! Front sight is a period of use replacement with a small brass tip. The rear sight looks like it is off of a Marlin rifle if I am correct. It is missing the sight elevator only and if I can dig one up I will install that before it sells. The wood is nice and solid on this gun. The forearm is solid and fits tight to the metal all around. Looks like a small knot 1/4" diameter on the bottom of the forearm right behind the forearm cap. At first glance I though it was some kind of a wooden dowel but a closer look with a loop shows it is just a small knot in the wood. Still shows some original or period varnish. The butt stock is nice as well. Couple very small and minor chips. One by the upper tang {see photo} and one or two by the bottom tang. Nothing bad or detracting from the gun at all and is just from honest use in the last 120 tears !! Shows a few dings and scrapes but still fits tight to the metal all around with no gaps or major missing wood. {see photos}..  All in all this is a pretty decent ole 92 that shows 120 years of honest use but is still ticking!!!. Very nice bore in a great caliber for shooting. Antique 92's and 94's are getting very hard to find these days because of the very short time period they were produced. Shop around but I think I have this one priced very reasonable and taking in consideration or course the condition. It is not a closet beauty queen by any means but won’t cost you $2000 either. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos of a certain area you want to see. I think you will be pleased with this one or your money back !!
