FINE CIVIL WAR SHARPS U.S. NEW MODEL 1863 PERCUSSION CAVALRY CARBINE. .52 caliber 22” barrel with crisp “NEW MODEL 1863” stamped at the breech and “SHARPS RIFLE/MANUFG CO/HARTFORD CONN” stamped to the front of the rear sight. Barrel with Federal Ordnance Sub-Inspector’s stamp “E.A.W.” (E.A. Williams) at the left side of the barrel in front of the frame. Butt stock and forend inspected at the heal near the butt plate tang “H.H.H.” (H. H. Hamilton). 20-30% case hardening on the lock and frame with balance turning grey. Barrel with the original crisp patina. Wood with the original finish. Very fine age check at the toe of the stock-barely visible. Excellent bore and in working order.
