Description:
Serial #L29640, .303 British, 25" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has traces of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a 1911 dated rifle that no longer has the front volley sight or flip-up rear aperture but does retain the magazine cut-off. The nosecap is numbered to the gun and the metal retains about 30-40% of an armory re-applied blue finish with the balance of the metal having a bright gray patina. The bolt is numbered to a different rifle and there is a 1932 dated "F^R" arsenal stamp (Indian) on the left side of the wrist socket. The walnut stock and handguards are in very good shape with a large painted rack number on the left side of the butt and numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes throughout under the thick armory-added varnish. The forend has a faint but legible matching number on the underside just aft of the nosecap and the slightly loose buttstock has a visible armory stamp next to the stock disk. The rifle comes with a single magazine and canvassling and is a very good example of a pre-World War II armory refurbished, Anglo-Indian SMLE. {Ref.
