Description:
This dagger measures 13 5/8? overall with an 8 3/4? straight, double-edged blade having the double Sig-Runes, ?807/36? maker's code and date, and RZM logo etched onto the forte on the reverse. The blade has a pleasant bright gray patina overall that has never been cleaned or messed about with, and the ?Meine Ehre heist Treue? motto is crisp and sharp. Some mild freckling is visible along the edges and tip of the blade obverse, and darker freckling is present along the reverse (the metal is still smooth to the touch though; no pitting is present). The hilt fittings are still bright and the black wooden grip has scattered small handling marks and surface blemishes as well as a slight uplifting at the wingtips of the NSDAP eagle inlay. The scabbard has likewise not been cleaned or refurbished and has light freckling along its length with some peeling and mild pitting marring the original black finish while the throat and tip (which evidently suffered a heavy impact that nearly flattened it at a shallow angle) have predominantly bright patinas. The dagger is equipped with the rare black leather vertical hanger, this one has the square buckle and Assmann marked spring clip. The leather is in mostly excellent condition but does exhibit some moderate-heavy crazing and flaking around the top keeper tab. Some futher drk freckling is present on the buckle but the leather is still intact and flexible. This is a very good SS dagger that has not had any post-war ?improvements? and comes with a fantastic, rarely seen, and highly desirable vertical hanger. {Ref. ?German Daggers of World War II? by Thomas M.
