It has an operating lever on the right side, which raises the breech to be loaded. The 1st and 2nd Dragoons used these in the Mexican War. Many Union Regiments were issued these during the Civil War. These included outfits in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, New York and Indiana, among others. This is a nice clean example with excellent wood.
