R. B. Rodda & Co. London and Calcutta 450 Express Single Shot Rifle. This Rodda single is built on a field patent action. This very strong rifle was likely built for royalty in India. The engraving is spectacular with tight scroll and game scene on 3 sides. The Right side has a Tiger perched on a boulder viewing an antelope. The Left side has a Leopard taking an antelope. The bottom has a magnificent Male Lion just observing. All these are in forest scenes. The area around the scenes are covered with fine intricate scroll. The top and bottom tang, steel grip cap, trigger guard, and top of the falling block are also covered with fine intricate scroll engraving. There are traces of case color left. The 28" bore has strong Henry rifling from one end to the other as well as the full length of the rib. The bluing is excellent. It has 1 folding and 1 standing (100/200) sites with platinum lines. The stock and forearm (horn cap) have great finish and checkering. The stock has some light handeling marks. LOP is 14 1/8" over a steel peaked butt plate. This butt plate is in fair condition. All action screws are excellent. The grip cap screw and butt plate screws are good. Original large English sling eyes. Weight 7 pounds 14.5 ounces.
