Description:
S# 20434, 38 rimfire or percussion, 30 inch octagon barrel, very good bore with small areas of erosion. This rifle was built from 1869 to 1873. This is a very low numbered brown ballard with the lowest number known only 110 away. This gun features the dual ignition rimfire/ percussion breech block. Metal surfaces show an aged grey patina with frame showintg traces of case colors. The tall leaf on rear sight is broken and pewter forend tip is missing. Forend has a small chip on right at rear, butstock shows several grain cracks with some chipping around frame. A sling ring has been added to toe line. Serial number appears on barrel, frame and inside forend. Action and extractor housing show last three digits. Extractor handle has been modified and hammer spur shows a crack. Frame is slotted for a peep sight. A very early brown ballard with dual ignition breechblock. Antique
