The Victorian vintage helmit is in very good condition for its age. I believe it is a real one and not a repro. Its very heavy and silver plated over copper. It could use a good silver polishing. Its turning the usual silver black tarnish in a lot of areas. The chin strap is solid and the leather is dark but strong. The liner has been replaced at some date but does show some honest wear and staining , Its in solid condition and a good looking fire helmit. I believe silver plated ones were issued to higher ranking Fire Brigade officers. Its the only one I have ever owned so cant tell you much more about them. Its very well built and is a attractive helmit. Call for more info is you wish, Tom 612 859 5673 Added! The Helmit in my estimation is original because its very heavy, it weighs the same as a US GI steel pot and liner . It weighs three pounds. I believe is copper under the silver Plate. SOLD |
