Description:
This is a 60's vintage DGW rifle Deluxe Pennsylvania.There is a possability it is a Belgium import from those days.Some chance it may be Southgate,but at this point,who knows.Still it is a good ol Dixie rifle with a quality Green Mtn 45 cal barrel,in very good condition.Unusual in the carving and engraving,and well fit inlays.It has been rebarreled in recent past with a 45 cal Green Mtn barrel
I have done as much research as I could find regarding the provenance of this gun.It was bought in mid 60s by a dear friend,and even after 40 plus years of shooting togather,I had heard of this gun,but never seen it.As it is 40 something years,the wood in around lock and fore stock is somewhat fragile,as is antique long rifles.
It is fully shootable,tho for the sake of legal ,purchasers should have it examined by a competent traditional muzzle loading gunsmith.I have had conversations via email with DGW and a longtime collector regarding this gun.Both feel it is by a contracted builder for Turner Kirkland,it even has his trademark"bow tie "sideplate,which was altered slightly to accomodate the re-barrel properly.I have no idea what became of the orig perc lock,and barrel.From the Southgate guns similar to this I have seen,it looks like one to me.Patchbox is cast brass,as is nosecap,buttplate,t guard,sideplate.
This gun needs to be in someones collection,instead of languishing in my safe.All the casting have the number 27 stamped in.No other markings 'cept the engraving and incised carving.Pics show it well.Gun is sold as is,where is.No returns. ------------------------- NOTE LOWER PRICE-----------
