This is the gun that started it all for Arthur Savage. He looked at the lever action rifle completely different than other manufactures did and came up with a very unique rifle that survived the test of time. It went on to become the famous 1899 Savage and the many variations of it. For a Savage collector an 1895 would be a must. This one is a very early gun with a serial number in the 5k range. The metal is mostly silver. Evidently someone cleaned it years ago and it is starting to age back. The bbl address is very readable. Cal 303 Savage. Equipped with both bbl sights and a flip up top tang sight. Wood shows its age with a lot of wear. Crescent style butt plate with some wood shrinkage and a gouge at the toe. Cracks, one from the upper tang which is very typical, and some hairline cracks on the side by the frame. The forearm has no visible cracks. Action nice and solid. A little sticky from years of being dormant. Bore is at least good with light roughness. A very fine old Savage complete with a letter from Savage Arms.
