General Specs: Parker, Year 1916, 12 Gauge, 12ga=8lbs 11oz; 10ga=8lbs 5oz, Side by Side Serial Number: 172374 This is a very unique set up for the Parker enthusiast that collects and shoots vintage fowling pieces from the hey days of the American double gun. The accompanying PGCA letter shows the gun shipping in 1916 with 30" damascus steel barrels, weight 8lbs. 12oz., 13 3/4" LOP, 3" drop at heel and a capped pistol grip. THE GUN MATCHES THE LETTER PRECISELY. A second set of 10ga. "Special Steel" barrels with 2 7/8" chambers measuring 29" is most certainly a factory added set. The 10ga. barrels are later Remington barrels documented by the stampings on the barrel flats peculiar to late Remington guns, including a date code showing a May of 1949 factory visit for repairs or alterations. Remington had ceased production of the Parker side by side in 1942 and repairs/alterations were being done strictly with the remaining inventory of parts. The fallacy had already begun (generated by gun makers and shell producers, ie Remington and Winchester, that wanted to see owners of damascus guns buy new guns from them and increase their modern gun sales) that damascus barrels were unsafe to shoot, so the owner of this gun likely sent the gun to Remington for new 10ga. fluid steel barrels. It is my guess these barrels were in the stock room when such a request was made. The 10ga. barrels are choked IC/M making this the ideal combination to shoot decoying ducks and geese with the "short 10", a DEVASTATING combination of choke and gauge. Many are unaware that the larger 10 bore will far out perform a 12ga. 2 3/4" or 3" shell because of the larger bore diameter has a much shorter shot string, thereby putting more pellets on target simultaneously. With IC/M chokes you can shoot PREMIUM steel and other hard shot when non-toxic pellets are required (if you don't know why, ask). The FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION of this gun is remarkable, with both sets of barrels having mirror bores, damascus barrels pristine with 98% visible pattern, receiver showing 90% factory case color, excellent screws, nicely figured stock with original skeleton steel butt plate, everything functional and tight. What a rare and desirable Parker with condition and cherished features! Don't miss this one.
