Description:
The Plant's Mfg Co Second model was made in brass and iron frames. This revolver is the front loading .42 cal cupfire cartridge which was made to circumvent the Smith & Wesson bored through cylinder patent. The Plants revolvers were often private purchased and carried in the Civil War.
The iron frame total production is estimated at 350, so there there are not many of these babys around, particularly in godd condition.
Overall condition is fine, with about 90% originla blue to the barrel. Frame, back strap is gray metal finish. I dont know if they ever had any finish when made new.
"Plant's Mfg Co New Haven" is clearly stamped on the top of the barrel, with Merwin and Bray who were the financiers and agents for Plant's, is stamped on the left side of the barrel. The rosewood grips show around 50% 0f original varnish and are not chipped or cracked. The action work fine and locks the hammer at full cock. The cylinder is in excellent condition, however has a few dings ( see photo).
