Here is a gorgeous professionally restored piece that is almost never seen. Pistol grip deluxe 1895 flat sides are VERY rare but even more elusive was a plain pistol grip stock flat side such as this one. I have seen two in my life. This is one of them. It is in the desirable big 40-72 caliber and has a decent strong - if not perfect bore. The S# is 18XX which makes it a VERY early 2nd year DOM. Wood fit is excellent and markings are crisp and clear. I always thought the flat sides with perch-belly magazines were an aesthetic work of art. The blue remains about 99%. There is a small professional repair at the top forward end of the stock - barely noticeable. I could have had a folding tang sight that badly dinged it when laid back - and it could have happened over a hundred years ago! I may possibly even have some brass!
