Description:
This gun was built in the traditional Kentucky rifle fashion with a long 38" oct bbl and full stock. Differs slightly having a larger than normal 48 cal smooth bore. A very good looking piece of fancy maple that no doubt has been re-finished at some point. Bbl is a very dark antique patina. Side lock is also an aged color but you can read the markings and see the engraving. Originally had a double set trigger and now is a single trigger. Hammer and trigger work. Brass furniture with the long patch box. Ram rod is a later replacement. On further examination I believe this probably is a conversion and started out its life as a flintlock. A very old very attractive rifle!
