#4847 Smith & Wesson 38 S/A First Model (AKA “Baby Russian), centerfire 38S&W, decent enough bore to still be able to clean better and with good strong rifling …but also having light to medium pitting and dark grooves. Crisp tight action. Exterior retains 80-90% original nickel finish, standard hard rubber grips are about excellent. Only manufactured in 1876-77 with a total production of 25000+ (this one is mid-range being in the 12XXX serial range), this early centerfire S&W is easily identified by the longer extractor lug beneath the barrel and thus being similar in looks to the big 8” barreled 44cal Russian Model S/A. Except for the lesser bore condition, this is easily in Very Fine condition. $595
