#4854 Merwin & Hulbert (Hopkins & Allen Manufacture) Closed Frame D/A , 7” barrel, 44WCF with about a “6” bore (being spotty with moderate pitting and dark grooves) and VG+ action, standard flute style cylinder flutes and (thus known as the “Double Action Frontier” Model). Produced between 1878-1882, this later model large frontier revolver was produced for M&H by the Hopkins & Allen Mfg …and were (by far!) the best guns ever produced by the very prolific H&A, a company better known for their cheapie pocket revolvers. Flat style butt with original and very good condition (except for an “X” carved on the bottom) black rubber grips with lanyard ring intact. Liberal traces of original nickel finish mixing with grayish-brown metal and having some light scattered freckle pitting here and there and an “X” cut on the top-strap This rather scarce revolver also has the accessory folding spur hammer, not often seen. Unusual and novel “twist and pull” action is always a conversation piece for gun collectors. About VG/VG+ as described. $1795
