Description: Serial #1Z239, 11 x 48.5R (Battalion Ecole), 27" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has strong rifling and only some very mild freckling within the grooves. The metal has a generally dark gray patina with smooth plum-brown freckling throughout, darkest on the barrel and on the bolt handle. The rifle is sparsely marked with the serial number on the receiver and has "(crown)/C" proofs on the "A 630" marked bolt. The tall military ladder sight likewise has only a single graduation for 40 meters. The non-matching but correct one-piece walnut stock has an armory added oil finish over scattered minor handling marks and blemishes with a crisp "(crown)/M" cartouche on the right side of the buttstock and "29135" serial number on the left. This piece could be easily restored to its original bright condition but this will be the decision of the future owner. A scarce single shot for the French military collector or anyone interested in early blackpowder cartridge arms.
