Description:
Offered is a Marlin Ballard single shot rifle chambered for the 38-55 cartridge. It sports a 30" heavy part octagon barrel. Single shot with lever and brass swiss butt plate. No provision in barrel for rear sight with an original tang sight and globe front. Non checkered pistol grip walnut stock. Excellent wood stocks proud to metal with good figure. Metal is basically a smooth blue gray patina. Bore has strong rifling with some abrasions. Works perfectly. Has fine double set triggers. Nice example of an early sporting heavy barrel single shot rifle. I looked at the Ballard book by Dutcher and did not find another rifle that sported the pistol grip , loop lever and double set triggers that did not have a checkered stock, only the working rifles such as the Pacific has these features Serial number 22277. Antique so can be shipped anywhere.
