The barrel retains some traces of the original blue finish which blends smoothly with a dark plum-brown patina on the balance as well as a small amount of silvering at the muzzle and in other spots along its length. The frame, hammer, and lever have an overall dark gray pewter patina with some traces of bright original blue on the underside of the breechblock and scattered small spots of freckling. The brass barrel band and buttplate have a matching dark brown-ochre patina while the lightly sanded walnut forend and stock having numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes throughout the added varnish finish. There are some larger bruises on the wrist and the cartouche is still visible but illegible along with a series of short, with-the-grain cracks at the toe of the butt. This is a very good plus-near fine example of a Civil War Starr and would make a great example for a collection.
