Description:
NSN, .38 cal., 40” barrel with a very good, lightly pitted, smooth bore. This is a slimly profiled fowler that has an overall lightly freckled, plum-brown patina mixing with dull gray along the barrel and a few of the high edges. The unadorned and unmarked lock has visible file marks under the remnants of an added black finish, evidently World War II era Suncorite. The halfstock has rather nice checkering on the forend and rounded pistol grip, and retains an attractive dark oil finish with scattered minor handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout. Additionally, there are Nepali markings along the belly of the butt with mixed numerals and letters (their significance is unknown). The screws around the lock and breech tang are fairly bright and highly domed, but do have traces of the old black finish remaining and seem to be period replacements, if not original. The lock itself is still tight and fully functional, while the original thin metal ramrod is also still present. This is a very nice wall hanger, made to diminutive standards, and would make a great piece of decoration for a study or gun room. Antique
