Description:
Serial/Batch #62, .31 caliber, 4” barrel cluster with good, lightly pitted bores. This is a rare, six-shot pistol that has about 25-30% of the original blue remaining on the barrel cluster, mostly on the protected areas within the barrel flutes, and a mild plum-brown patina on the balance with some traces of freckling present towards the breech end. The engraved frame has a pale gray mottled patina with traces of the bright original blue just behind and on the nipple shield. The bar hammer likewise has bright original color case-hardening still present along the sides that blends into spots of darker freckling on the edges. The matching numbered walnut grips are in fine shape with scattered minor handling marks and blemishes as well as some mild flaking of the original piano varnish. The mechanism is still tight, functions flawlessly, and the pistol rates fine-near excellent condition overall. Very few of these six-shot pepperboxes were made and they are seldom encountered today. This example has an unusual amount of original finish remaining and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique (900) 1495
