Description:
Serial #760v, 8mm Mauser, 24" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a late war "bcd/4" (Gustloff Werke/1944) coded rifle which has retained 90-95% of the original blue finish that has silvered at the muzzle as well as along the high edges, projections, and bearing surfaces of the correct key safety equipped bolt (numbered 3728e on the handle). The rifle has a J.P. Sauer manufactured barrel (correct for a "bcd" coded rifle) with Waffenamt proofs towards the breech and a long slide scope mount properly installed on the left side of the receiver. The mount is numbered 8173u and houses a "dow" coded scope (Opticotechna GmbH, Werk Prerau, Protectorate of Bohemia) with blue "+" (indicating cold weather lubricants) and is numbered 19356 on the underside of the body. The scope is outfitted with a sheet steel sun shield and the optics are slightly cloudy but still perfectly serviceable with an intact German post and lines reticle. The rifle has a replaced wartime laminated stock numbered 3582x inside the barrel channel with additional "0" on the belly of the butt and very faint but discernible "(eagle)/" Heer army marking on the right side of the butt. The wood has numerous small handling marks and small blemishes through the armory added varnish, thinnest on the butt aft of the pistol grip, and the handguard (which is numbered 1795 on the interior) has a fine original military oil finish remaining. A correct checkered cup style buttplate is installed and both an original cleaning rod and front sight hood are also included. This is a splendid mixed parts long side rail Kar.98k sniper that is nevertheless in the proper configuration and in fine-near excellent overall condition. It would make an impressive addition to any World War II collection. FFL or C&R {Ref. "The German Sniper 1914-1945" by Peter R. Senich; 1982}
