Description:
This custom Pre-64 Model 70 action was rebuilt by Master Rifle Maker Lee Kuhn of Poulsbo, Washington.
This .270 Winchester rifle was built in 1998 as a companion to a .375 H&H and a .458 Winchester Magnum originally ordered by Safari Club's Conservation Awards program. These rifles are featured in Classic Gun Magazine's October 1987 issue in the chapter about Custom Gunsmith Lee Kuhns. The rifle has been engraved and gold inlaid by Master Engraver Roger Kehr whose signature is visible on the magazine plate. The stock is handbuilt, checkered, and inletted to the barrel by Mr. Kuhns from XXX exhibition grade California Walnut, and is demonstrated in the aforementioned magazine article. The stock includes an ebony forend, ivory scrimshawed wolf steel skeleton pistol grip cap, hand-engraved fleur de lis and gold inlaid trigger guard, hand checkered bolt knob, hand engraved and gold inlaid scope rings, hand scroll engraved and inlaid magazine plate with solid gold hand engraved Dall's Sheep head. The scope is a Leupold 3.5 X 10 X 42 Vari-X III. Handloads produce .75" groups, data enclosed. 165 hand loaded rounds included. Rifle carried on two hunts; caribou and dall ram, one shot kills. The Dall ram hunt and rifle were featured in the May/June 1999 edition of Safari Club Magazine. The rifle is in excellent condition with only two or three minor dings on the stock and no metal wear whatsoever.
