The metal is very nice for its age and certainly well above average for what is basically considered a no-finish gun, and it has almost no pitting or serious wear anywhere. It has the correct early ejector housing with the “captive” Bulls-Eye headed rod and the barrel has the early block address address that came after the italic addressed S/As. The overall look is FAR above what one usually sees for an old cowboy Colt, especially one in the pre-1880 era, and it has an even plum brown thin patina with a mottled swirly silvery-grey on the frame. BUT.. suffice to say this (…and this is a VERY important fact)…that since many, if not most pre-1900 Single Actions have been restored, enhanced, and/or “juiced-up” to some degree (especially the very highly sought after and desirable military models) that one should always take the possibility of some degree of restoration into consideration. This gun has been valued and priced with that probability in mind since I have no history or provenance. There are a lot of photos to this VERY desirable early Civilian S/A , so if they all don’t load (there are about 19 photos in all), just email me and I will forward them to you by return email. This is a real opportunity to own a real piece of the Wild West in the form of a frontier cartridge handgun …and one of the fastest value appreciators in the antique gun field.
