Maynard’s Tape Primed .35 caliber rifle of the type purchased in small quantities by southern states during the Civil War. 26” round barrel with two leaf rear and blade front sights. Tang sight and Maynard tape primer mechanism integral with the frame. Maynard original reverse double set triggers. 100% original and complete. Frame stamped “MAYNARD ARMS CO./WASHINGTON” and “MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS”. Patchbox lid with Maynard’s 1851 and 1856 patent dates. Very good plus to fine with the original finish on the stock and original untouched grey-brown patina on the metal surfaces, Very crisp markings and metal edges. Perfect working order and good bore with some corrosion but sharp lands and grooves. As an interesting side note a Maynard rifle was captured with the Confederate Schooner Savannah’s surrender to the Union Frigate Perry in June 1861. (See John D.
