Description:
AYA custom deluxe 12ga O/U sidelock shotgun with two sets of barrels; possibly a highly embellished model 37. Custom built for Colonel Leon Mandel, noted sportsman, author, competition shooter, explorer, Chicago department store owner, and collector for that city's Field Museum. Owner's name is gold-filled engraved on barrels and underside of receiver.
True sidelock action with hand-detachable sideplates with concealed pin; gold-washed action parts. SST, SE, tang safety. Merkel-style action with double underlugs and double crossbolts. 28" barrel sets with 3" chambers and choked F/M and XF/IM. Red- front sight with silver middle bead. Coin-finished receiver is elaborately engraved with bird scenes; extensive engraving on trigger guard and both tangs as well. Barrel tips and fillers (blued) are engraved on both sides.
Beautiful walnut stocks with very fine checkering and leather-covered recoil pad; LOP is 13 3/4 inches. Bottom of pistol grip is capped with what appears to be black buffalo horn.
In overall excellent condition with smooth shiny bores and tight action. Gun was recently professionally disassembled, cleaned, and lubed.
Comes in original fitted oak/leather locking case (no key) with heavy-duty snap caps and a block of buffalo horn to allow firing pin release.
