Description:
Serial #27634, 20 Bore, 28" barrels with fine, bright bores that have some miniscule spots of freckling along their length. This is a nicely proportioned little gun that has nitro-proofed damascus barrels with ejectors and Greener type third fastener. The tubes have a strong and attractive pattern with some freckling and fading at the muzzles while the rib has a clear "H. TRULOCK HARRISS. 4 PICKERING PLACE ST. JAMES'S STREET, LONDON" maker's address. The standing breech and water table (which also has a small and unobtrusive importer's mark) have noticeable amounts of the original color case-hardening remaining that blend smoothly into a bright patina on the balance (vivid original color case-hardening can still be seen on the interior of the forend iron). English floral engraving is present throughout with a tasteful rose and scroll motif on the sideplates and the opening lever retains most of its original blue. The barrels are slightly off-face and the lever is just slightly right of center (the lever feels slightly loose but the gun closes firmly). The locks are functional but the left ejector does not trip. The checkered forend and semi-pistol grip buttstock have numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes under an added varnish finish. There are some further small chips along the border of the forend where it meets the barrels and a diagonal hairline crack along the left side of the grip just behind the lockplate. The grooved horn buttplate is lightly worn but intact and the German silver escutcheon is blank. The gun has a 14 1/2" LOP with drops of 1 3/8" and 1 7/8". This is a dainty little double and could easily be brought back to usable condition by a gunsmith experienced with British double guns. Barrel wall measurement is .013 on the LT tube and .021 on the RT. FFL or C&R
